On Nov. 13, Jigme Thrinley Rinpoche gave a public talk at Tsunami Book store entitled, How to Love Yourself. Throughout this inspiring talk which included guided meditations on calm abiding and loving kindness. Rinpoche compassionately and humorously encouraged us to love and care for ourselves by listening to and loving the physical body and opening to an understanding of who we truly are.
Rinpoche asked several provocative questions throughout the talk "Are we this body?", "Who are we truly? " Participants were encouraged to take time daily to sit still and contemplate these questions, as well as to use our suffering to understand ourselves and others more deeply and compassionately.

The key messages were to be a little gentler, a little kinder and softer when thinking about ourselves, to focus on what is right, not what is wrong and to think of our flaws and mistakes as "features" that make us more human and interesting. Rinpoche ended the talk with a story that included the following questions and answers. "What is the most important time? - Now. Who is the most important person to love? - yourself. What is the most important thing to do? Care. Care in every moment. Be with things as they are in the moment. Find the simplicity of just being...that is where the health, love and kindness begin for ourselves and others. The full house audience applauded with deep appreciation and all left inspired with a lighter more open heart to self and others.
Rinpoche will be speaking again on Friday, 6:00pm-8:00pm November 22nd at First Presbyterian Church, Friendship Hall, 216 South 3rd street, in Cottage Grove on "Gratitude" and on December 4th, 7:00pm-8:30 pm "How to let go of the past and Embrace the Future" at Tsunami Book store in Eugene, come early as Rinpoche's public talks draw a lot of people and seats fill up.
