ANNUAL EVENT hosted by Palmo Center & Eugene Sakya Center (10 consecutive years)
HISTORY AND MISSION of MAHA GURU BOOM TSOK:
Every year we host a week of grand offerings, prayers and meditation on Maha Guru Boom Tsok (Rigzin Dungdrub), a treasure text revealed by the great Terton Rigzin Godem. In the past, it has been led by our founder and spiritual director along with other visiting Masters from all four schools of Tibetan Buddhism.
The practice of Maha Guru Boom Tsok is initiated with three noble objectives in our minds:
-To pray for the long life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the entire lineage of masters of all Tibetan Buddhist schools; as well as the fulfillment of their noble aspirations.
-To pray for an end to the suffering of Tibetans and others experiencing similar human rights violations.
-To pray for sustained peace and happiness in a world that is torn apart by greed, hatred, and ignorance
Furthermore, both His Holiness the Great 5th Dalai Lama and the present His Holiness, the Great 14th Dalai Lama firmly believe in the profound blessing and effectiveness of this practice of Guru Rinpoche. This practice is meant to dispel obstacles in life and bring both temporary and lasting happiness to all sentient beings. It is believed to help Tibetans in their struggle for liberation. As a result, Maha Guru Boomtsok has continued annually in Dharamsala under the auspices of Tibetan Government in Exile and is presided over by His Holiness.
Moreover, the Tibetan government has stressed the importance of remembering these aforementioned proclamations and accumulating the “Collective merit” for many years now. Consequently, our resident teacher and our center have worked hard to realize and implement these wishes and advice. Motivated by the devotion, determination and compassionate vision of Rinpohces Mayum la; Naljorma Jangchup Palmo. Our center initiated and organized the first ever Great Maha Guru Boom Tsok along with a series of empowering teachings in North America. Inspired by the principal of Non-Sectarian (Re-May), this grand puja has been participated in and led by Rinpoches, Khenpos, monks and nuns from all schools of Tibetan Buddhism.
The auspicious beginning of this grand puja was commenced on July 6th 2006, the special and propitious occasion of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s birthday. The day corresponded to 10th day of 5th month of Fire Dong Year of Tibetan lunar calendar, which also coincided with the birthday of Guru Rinpoche.
Since then, we have annually held this practice in Portland, Oregon, USA. As a result of its success and the multitude of benefits, we as a center, took the responsibility to propagate the Maha Guru Boomtsok globally. This noble aspiration was further encouraged when Naljorma Jangchup Palmo had a private audience with His Holiness the Dalai Lama during his visit to Madison, Wisconsin in 2008. At that meeting His Holiness blessed and gave his full support for our cause; he further suggested that we begin this global propagation in Switzerland.
With special blessing and advice directly from His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the dept. of Religion and culture affairs, we officially commenced and inaugurated our first annual Boom Tsok in Switzerland in 2010. It has been graced by the presence of most eminent masters such as His Holiness Sakya Trizin, His Eminence Sharpa Choeje Rinpoche, His Holiness Taklung Shabdrung Rinpoche, His Eminence Shechen Rabjam Rinpoche, His Excellency Ven. Kalon Tsering Phuntsok la (Minister of religion and culture affairs), Representative of His Holiness Dalai Lama, Most Venerable Sherab Gyaltsen Amipa, Rinpoche, Ven. Jigme Thrinley Rinpoche(Founder/Spiritual Director), Ven. Khenpo Phuntsok Rinpoche, Lama Jampa Rinpoche, and Ven. Omze of Namgyal Monastery. Moreover, dignitaries, monks, nuns, other Tibetans and westerners also participated in this grand puja.
Amidst our busy environment and personal schedules we hardly have time to meditate or form communities. This event brings Tibetans and western dharma practitioners together for days of prayer and contemplation and perhaps more importantly, provide a platform for younger generations of Tibetans to experience an aspect of their rich ancient culture and tradition from extinction.
The focus of this practice is on the Tsok, where participants make vast offerings various items such as flowers, food etc. Through mantra recitation and meditation the offerings are consecrated and presented back to the gathered enlightened beings. The positive intention of this dedication to the gathered enlightened beings, is the dispelling of obstacles, as well as the increase of harmony and peace in the world. In particular, this prayer is for the long life of His Holiness Dali Lama and fulfillment of his noble aspirations.
The intimate environment of the Boom Tsok is a precious opportunity to be in the presence of teachers bodhicitta nd make aspiration alongside the inner spirit of compassion and wisdom which they embody. It is profound and life changing experience.
Concluding prayers with our palms joined at our heart, we pray through the acquired root of virtue: may the precious doctrine of Lord Buddha flourish far and wide throughout the world. May His Holiness the Dalia Lama, Alokiteshvara in person, and all the lineage holders’ lotus feet remain stable, and may their holy wishes be spontaneously fulfilled.
May peace prevail in the world, may the cause of Tibet be actualized through the policy of middle path that is mutually beneficial for both Tibet and China, and may Tibetans living inside and out of Tibet reunite and all enjoy the new glory of perfection. May Rigzin Dung-drup spread all over the world, bringing benefit to all sentient beings without exception, and due to this, may all of them never be born in the lower realms, and may they quickly attain the unsurpassed enlightenment.
The Maha Guru Boom Tsok is open to everyone who wishes to make connection to this practice or simply deepen their spiritual path. So everyone is cordially invited. JOIN US!
